BALTIMORE, MD. - The Marist volleyball team withstood a fierce Loyola rally which forced a deciding fifth set to come away with a 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 15-7) victory on Sunday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match. Senior Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Texas) led the Red Foxes with 12 kills while freshman Grace Hill (Portage, Mich.) and senior Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.) each finished with 10 kills apiece.
Marist (8-10, 3-3 MAAC) won the first two sets behind two service aces and two kills from sophomore Katie Estes (Saugus, Calif.) in addition to five kills by Schmid.
Trailing 2-0 entering the third set, Loyola (7-13, 1-5 MAAC) claimed the third and fourth games to force a deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set, Marist received three early service aces from junior Stephanie Robinett (Sugar Land, Texas) to build an early 8-1 lead. Loyola trimmed Marist's lead to 10-7, but the Red Foxes scored the next four points to secure the 15-7 fifth set victory and win the match, 3-2.
Senior Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) led Marist with 17 digs in the match.
The Greyhounds received a match-high 29 kills by Nina Camaioni while Brittany Born added 15 digs in the losing effort.
Marist returns to action next weekend when it hosts Rider on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
