Women's Tennis Falters In 6-1 Loss To South Carolina State

ORLANDO, FLA. - The Marist women's tennis team lost its second match in as many days to South Carolina State on the team's Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday. The final score of the match was 6-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. On Wednesday, the Red Foxes earned a victory over Morehead State via a forfeit.

Junior Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) netted Marist's lone win in the dual match at fifth singles. She defeated Iveta Blodniece in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Two other Red Foxes fell by identical scores at first and third singles, respectively. Freshman Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) dropped her match at first singles, while classmate Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) lost at third singles. Raynor lost to Daria Sekerina and Sun fell to Beate Valdane by identical 6-3, 6-3 scores.

Marist will return to the courts on Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m., in its home opener against the University of Albany.
