MONMOUTH, N.J. - The Marist men's track and field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday at the Monmouth Season Opener. Despite windy conditions and a temperature hovering near 30 at the meet's conclusion, several Red Foxes set personal bests.
"Overall, this was our best season-opening outdoor meet in recent memory," Marist Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Pete Colaizzo said. "Despite challenging conditions, the team competed very well."
Senior Matthew Janczyk (Bristol, Conn.) finished fourth in the steeplechase, his highest finish in the event and his best season-opening time. Junior Patrick Duggan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and freshman Thomas DeVaney (Colonie, N.Y.) turned in a personal best in the javelin despite having no formal practice outside this season due to the weather.
Marist returns to action on Friday, April 2 at the Sam Howell Invitation at Princeton, N.J.
