Red Foxes Remain Unbeaten In MAAC, Defeat Manhattan 6-1

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - After a sweep of all three doubles matches, the Marist women's tennis team won a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual match over Manhattan 6-1 at the USTA National Tennis Center on Wednesday. In addition to the sweep of the doubles point, Marist (4-7, 2-0 MAAC) won five singles matches as well, all of which were in straight sets.

At first doubles, freshmen Kayla O'Donovan (Garden City, N.Y.) teamed up at second doubles to best Hilary Valenzuela and Christina Puleo 8-3. Juniors Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) cruised past Manhattan's third doubles pair of Christina Ton and Nora Sacchi Hulton, 8-1.

The Red Foxes garnered singles victories in the top three spots in the lineup. Raynor defeated Johnson in the first set 7-5, and was ahead 3-0 in the second before Johnson retired. McCarthy defeated Valenzuela 6-1, 6-4 at second singles. At third singles, Sun breezed to the most one-sided victory of the day, a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ton.

Lukin and Byron won at fifth and sixth singles respectively as well. Lukin defeated Tsao 6-1, 6-3, while Byron lost just two games in as many sets in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sacchi Hulton.

Marist will return to action on return to action on Wednesday, April 7 at 3 p.m. when it travels to Siena for a conference match. The dual will wrap up a five-game road trip for the Red Foxes.
