BALTIMORE, MD. - The Marist men's tennis completed a perfect Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season as it notched its third straight shutout victory. On Sunday, the Red Foxes coasted to a 7-0 victory over the Loyola Greyhounds at Butler Courts to clinch the top seed at the upcoming conference championship. The win improved Marist to 10-5 and 6-0 in the MAAC.
Marist began the match with a sweep of the doubles matches. The third doubles team of Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) lost just one game in an 8-1 win over Matt McDaniel and Bobby Gorczakowski. The first doubles pair of Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) posted an 8-3 win over Keyan Sanai and J. Pierce Norton, 8-3.
The doubles point was given an insurance victory as senior Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched an 8-5 win over Kevin Zingler and Dan D'Agostino at second doubles.
Himmelsbach was one of six players for Marist to win in straight sets in singles action. He grew his winning streak to seven matches with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Zingler. Himmelsbach played third singles on Sunday.
Greene also tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles over McDaniel. The junior has won his last five singles contests.
Sessagesimi and Pisecky each lengthened their winning streaks to four matches apiece. Sessagesimi defeated Sanai, 6-3, 6-3, while Pisecky got the better of Norton 6-3, 6-0. Sessagesimi and Pisecky played first and second singles respectively.
Sims and von Nordheim rounded out the singles victories for Marist. Sims won at sixth singles over Jamie Russo, 6-2, 6-1. Von Nordheim shutout Gorczakowski in the first set and lost just four games in the match. His final score at fifth singles was 6-0, 6-4.
Winners of their last eight dual matches, the Red Foxes will travel to Hartford on Monday, April 19. The Hawks and the Red Foxes will meet for a dual match with first serves slated for 4:30 p.m.
