PRINCETON, N.J. - Competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time in his collegiate career, freshman Arquimedes DelaCruz (Wantagh, N.Y.) of the Marist men's outdoor track and field team ran a time of 9:25.90 at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton University on Friday. The time enabled him to qualify for the USA Track & Field Junior National Championships, which will be held in June at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
DelaCruz's time was over 12 seconds better than the qualifying standard of 9:38 in the steeplechase for junior nationals. The time was also the fastest in school history for any Red Fox in his steeplechase debut, and it enabled him to place 14th at the event.
Sophomore Adam Vess (Cromwell, Conn.), who ran a time of 3:49.61 at the Sam Howell Invitational last year.
Junior Timothy Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.) placed 36th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:19.60, and senior David Raucci (Clermont, N.Y.) finished 15th in the 10,000 meters in 32:08.44.
The Marist men's track and field team will return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Bison Outdoor Classic, which will be held at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
