POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Melanie Rigo has recently indicated her intention to enroll at Marist for the Fall of 2010 and join the Women's Soccer Team. Rigo competed this past season and is enrolled at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. As a freshman for the Gamecocks, Rigo started and played in all eighteen games of the season at central midfield. She had one goal and five assists on the season.
As a captain of John Glenn high school team in 2008, Rigo lead the team to the league title and earned All-County honors as well as the Coaches' Choice Award. In her four-year career at Glenn, Rigo had 36 goals and 36 assists. Rigo also competed for the Cold Spring Harbor ISA United club team. With the United, Rigo competed in the Disney Showcase, Jefferson Cup and Score at the Shore tournaments.
Coach Roper on Rigo: "We are delighted a player of Melanie's ability and experience will be joining us. Melanie is a player we were impressed with coming out of high school, and we are happy to welcome her back to New York and Marist. She is a solid and effective central player who can dictate the pace of a game with her play. Her passing ability and vision make her a strong central player, and with a year of collegiate competition under her belt now, we expect her to make a strong contribution to our team. Melanie has a great work ethic and attitude, so she will fit in well with us."
Rigo, a sophomore in the fall, will join eight players who previously signed to play with Marist in March.
