BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Marist women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Lehigh of the Patriot League on Friday night. Sophomore defender Jessica Arabia (Naperville, Ill.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the waning seconds of the first half for the Red Foxes.
Lehigh opened the scoring 2:30 into the contest, when Murphee Greenlee scored on a rebound to give the Mountain Hawks an early 1-0 advantage. With just 28 seconds remaining until halftime, Arabia tucked a shot from approximately 30 yards out underneath the crossbar to tie the score at one apiece heading into halftime.
The score remained that way until overtime, when at the 92:02 mark, Lena Cannon tallied the game-winner for Lehigh.
Lehigh held advantages of 16-9 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Red-shirt senior goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.) made nine saves for Marist.
In addition to Arabia, junior midfielder Kathryn Hannis (Bloomsbury, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Rycke Guiney (Naperville, Ill.) registered shots on goal for the Red Foxes.
Lehigh improved to 3-1-1, while Marist fell to 2-5. The Red Foxes will return to action on Sunday, when they play the last of their four consecutive matches away from home against Lafayette. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
