POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -Marist junior wide receiver Michael Rios (Miami, Fla.) earned a Football Championship Subdivision Honorable Mention College Football Performance Award for his efforts against Morehead State on Sept. 25. In that contest, Rios caught three passes for a career-high 168 yards and two touchdowns from 61 and 69 yards out.
With Marist trailing 45-26 and 7:55 left to play in the fourth quarter, Rios caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Reilly (Marlton, N.J.) to bring the Red Foxes within 13. Then, with 2:47 to go, Rios caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Reilly to close the gap to 45-39. Both of Rios' scores came on the first play of their respective drives. Rios also had a 38-yard reception in the third quarter that helped set up a Marist touchdown.
Through three games this season, Rios has 273 receiving yards on seven receptions, an average of 39.0 yards per catch. He has three receiving touchdowns, all of which have been longer than 60 yards.
The Marist football team (1-2 overall, 0-1 Pioneer Football League) will return to action on Saturday, when the Red Foxes travel to Drake for a PFL contest. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. EDT.
