POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist volleyball head coach Tom Hanna announced Thursday the signing of two student-athletes of the class of 2016. Kelsey Lahey of Ohio and Courtney Shaw from Colorado will join the Red Foxes as outside hitters next fall.
Kelsey Lahey, 5-10, Left Side Hitter, Bowling Green, Ohio, Bowling Green H.S./Premier Volleyball Club
Lahey led her club team to a Second Place finish at the 2011 AAU National Championship and was named an All-American. She was a member of the 2009 Ohio Valley Region High Performance Team that participated in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. Lahey was chosen as a First Team All-League and County in 2010 & 2011, a First Team All-District in 2011 and Second Team All-District in 2010. Selected as a member of the 2011 Under Armour Girls High School All-America Watch List, Lahey was also her high school's co-captain her junior and senior year.
Hanna on Lahey: "Kelsey is an experienced and well trained player who will bring a balance of ball control and attacking to our program. She played extremely well at AAU Nationals in June where she captured All-American honors while leading her team to a second place finish. We're excited to add another player from Premier to our program, as Coach Schramm does an excellent job of preparing players for the next level."
Courtney Shaw, 6-0, Right Side Hitter, Centennial, Co., Grandview H.S./Colorado Performance
Shaw's high school team finished third at the Colorado State Championships in 2009 and fifth in 2010 and she helped Grandview win their League, Region and District this year. She was named a 2011 Rocky Mountain Region All-Star while leading Colorado Performance to a first place finish in their Region last club season. She was a First Team Academic All-State in 2010. Off the court, Shaw is a member of the National Honor Society and student body Treasurer.
Hanna on Shaw: "Courtney is a dynamic player who attacks well off of one foot, which is a perfect fit for what we prefer to do with our right side hitters. Her experience as a middle blocker will also allow us to have her attacking at a variety of places along the net at first tempo. Her club experience combined with leading Grandview High School to the top of Class 5A will certainly have her ready for the college game."
