Against Yale, Marist won four singles matches, two of which came against regionally ranked foes. Sophomore Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) bested fourth-ranked Marc Powers 6-1, 6-2 and freshman Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland) bested #8 John Huang, 6-3, 6-2. Marist also won two out of three doubles matches to claim the point. Junior Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Van Eck bested Powers and Chase 8-6 at first doubles. Rossi and Reznek notched an 8-3 win at third doubles over Daniel Hoffman Huang.
"I thought we had a pretty good team but this win affirms my thoughts," head coach Tim Smith said. "This is the first win in program history over Yale, a team who has been in the top-75 this season. I was excited for Joris [Van Eck] who defeated the #4 player in the region. He really responded after a tough match against Stony Brook."
Marist swept the Knights and won eight of nine matches en route to the victory. The Red Foxes won all six singles matches. The highlights included Himmelsbach who posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles over Yuri Gricheno. Greene cruised past Mark Hemy at fourth singles 6-0, 6-2 and Reznek triumphed over Dominic Devaux-Lovell 6-2, 6-1.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, March 12 when it takes on Loyola Marymount as part of the team's Spring Break trip to California.
