Final Stats

VESTAL, N.Y. - In a low scoring game, in which three quarters had identical goal scored totals, the Red Foxes were unfortunately on the wrong end of a fast start by Binghamton. The Bearcats' 5-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter gave them all the lead they would need for the game. Senior Corey Zindel (Randolph, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with three goals, while sophomore Connor Rice (Penfield, N.Y.) had a team-high three assists in a losing effort as the Red Foxes fell by a score of 9-5.

Binghamton began the game with a three goal run over the first 7:36 of play. Zindel notched the Red Foxes' first score as he converted on a pass from freshman Morgan Faller (Weston, Conn.). Two more goals by Binghamton's David Raleigh and John Clark put the score at 5-1 after 15 minutes of play.

In a low scoring second quarter, in which only 12 combined shots were attempted, a Matt Springer goal for Binghamton stretched the lead to 6-1 at the 11:05 mark. 71 seconds later, Zindel responded with his second goal of the game. He was assisted on the goal by Rice. With his goal in the first quarter Zindel extended his consecutive game scoring streak to 23, while Rice's assist extends his to 19.

Coming out of half down, 6-2, goals were hard to come by again in the third quarter. Sophomore Aedan Herman (Stafford, Va.) broke a 20 minute 55 second goal-less streak for the Red Foxes with his third goal of the season. Marist's defense held Binghamton for an even longer period of time as the Bearcats went 23:33 before Matt Springer notched a goal at 2:32 left in the third. At the end of the quarter the score was 7-3.

Springer's third goal of the game early in the fourth quarter stretched the lead to five goals at 8-3. A crisp Rice pass led to sophomore Jack Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) putting his fourth goal of the year in the back of the net at 6:23. After a Binghamton goal, Zindel closed out the scoring with his third goal of the game with four seconds remaining to put the game in the books at Binghamton 9, Marist 5.

For the game, Marist was led defensively by junior Kevin Defranco (Shoreham, N.Y.), who had a team-high three caused turnovers and the second-most ground balls with four. Sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Price (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made a career-high 14 saves while facing 23 shots on goal.

As a team, Marist put up similar totals to Binghamton in most categories with the Bearcats holding slight advantages in shots at 34-32, ground balls 28-26 and saves 15-14. The Red Foxes converted 15 of 17 clears, besting Binghamton's mark of 16 of 20.

The Red Foxes will be in action next weekend as they host Siena in their MAAC Lacrosse League opener on Saturday, March 19. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
