BOSTON, Mass. - With the match tied at three, Will Reznek's (Toronto, Canada) second-set rally at fifth singles clinched Marist's 4-3 win over Boston University on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 4-1 in the second set against Ferdinand Brunet after winning the first set 6-2, Reznek captures five consecutive games to seal a 6-4 win and a victory for the Red Foxes, who improved to 5-1 in dual match play.
"It was great to see the guys stepping up after losing the doubles point," Assistant Coach Loic Sessagesimi said. "With the matched tied at three, Will Reznek showed great fighting spirit."
The Terriers earned the doubles point behind wins at first and second doubles. Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) fell 8-6 to Jesse Frieder and Jarred Pendleton. Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) teamed up at third doubles to defeat Bill Kring and Alex Green 8-2.
In singles action, each match was decided in straight sets. At first singles, Van Eck fell to Friedman 6-4, 6-4. Rossi handily defeated Friedman 6-1, 6-1 at second singles, while Pisecky struggled against Frieder, losing 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot. In the most closely contested singles match of the day, Greene outlasted Pendleton 7-6 (2), 6-3 in fourth singles. Marcus von Nordheim defeated Alex Hallenbeck at sixth singles 6-3, 6-4. Reznek's win concluded the singles matches.
Marist will return to action tomorrow morning in Jamaica, N.Y. where they will take on #69 St. John's. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
