POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist tennis team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competition on Tuesday with a 7-0 triumph over Siena at the Marist Tennis Pavilion on Tuesday. The Red Foxes did not drop a set in any of their singles' matches, and won all three of their doubles' contests.
"I'm excited about starting conference play, and the way we came out of the game on a chilly afternoon in March," Head Coach Tim Smith said.
Freshman Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles against Jarrett Siwiec. At third singles, junior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) defeated Dylan Roberts at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) defeated Andrew White, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, Himmelsbach and Van Eck defeated Amico and Collins, 8-1. Greene teamed up with senior Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) to record an 8-4 win over Siwiec and Cooperman. Rossi and Reznek earned an 8-1 win over Roberts and Vik Kadaba.
Marist is now 6-2 in dual matches this season. The Red Foxes are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Fordham at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
