POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis defeated Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match by a score of 7-0 at the Marist Tennis Pavilion on Thursday. The Red Foxes did not drop a set in any of their singles matches, and also swept the doubles en route to the victory.
"We're happy to be 5-0 in the MAAC with a chance to win the regular season versus Loyola on Sunday," Marist coach Tim Smith said. "I thought all of our guys played at a high level today."
Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) defeated Milo Milosovici, 6-3, 6-2. Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) toppled John Spellman, 6-2, 6-2, at fourth singles. At fifth singles, Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Nick Lubold.
Pisecky teamed with Rhys Hobbs (Sydney, Australia) for an 8-1 win against Malfitano and Matt DiMartino. Himmelsbach and Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands) defeated Laverty and Drew Esposito, 8-3. Rossi and Reznek earned an 8-1 win against Carpenter and Milosovici.
Marist is now 14-3 overall and 5-0 in the MAAC; Rider fell to 2-18 overall and 0-5 in the MAAC.
Marist will return to action on Sunday, when the Red Foxes close out their MAAC and home schedules against Loyola. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
Prior to the match, the men's and women's programs held their annual Senior Day ceremony. Pisecky, Greene, von Nordheim were honored for the men's program, along with Juliana Boas, Retta Byron, Jeannie Lukin and Joanna Macaluso from the women's program.
