FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis swept the doubles matches and did not drop a set in the singles matches en route to a 7-0 triumph over Loyola in the semifinal round of the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Tennis Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday.
"As I said to the guys, this tournament is like building a house," Head Coach Tim Smith said. "Throughout the season, we built the foundation, we did the floors, we put up the walls, but now we have to put the roof on the house."
The Red Foxes, seeded first in the tournament, will face second-seeded Fairfield in Thursday's championship match, which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. A win would put Marist in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, and ninth time in program history.
Against Loyola, the third doubles team of freshmen Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) prevailed at sixth singles 6-1, 6-2 for his 20th singles victory of the season.
