NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - In the first match of its trip to western New York, the Marist men's tennis team defeated Niagara 7-0. The win improved Marist's record to 8-2 in dual match play and 2-0 in the MAAC.

"I was very happy with our singles play and especially Matt Himmelsbach's play overall, in singles and doubles," Marist head coach Tim Smith said. "Let's hope we can keep the momentum rolling for our match against Fairfield on Wednesday."

First singles would mark the most competitive match of the afternoon. After falling 3-6 in the first set, freshman Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) beat Brandon Gallegos 6-3, 6-2.

Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) was slotted at third singles, where the junior ousted Joseph Zelic 6-3, 6-0. Senior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) defeated Mathieu Lacasse 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles, freshman Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) handled David Lemieux-Sarrasin 6-1, 6-2 in the final position.

In doubles action, Van Eck and Himmelsbach beat Kane and Lacasse 8-2. Greene and senior Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) held off Zelic and Lemieux-Sarrasin 8-5 at second doubles. In the last doubles position, Rossi and Reznek defeated Gallegos and Matt Bojanowski 8-3.

The Red Foxes will play the second match of their western road trip on Sunday against Buffalo in Amherst, N.Y.
