POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Freshman Billy Hild improved his best time by close to one minute in the 10,000-meter run en route to a second-place finish, leading the Marist College track team at the Matthew Vassar Open at Vassar College Friday night.
Hild was the first collegiate finisher and ran 32:59.02 for the 25-lap race, improving on his previous best of 33:55.24 by nearly one minute. Hild led a sweep of the top collegiate spots in the 10,000.
Following him across the line were teammates Will Schanz, who improved his personal-best in the event by more than a minute with a third-place time of 33:09.65; freshman Mike Clausen was fourth in a personal-best time of 33:21.29. Rounding out the field were freshmen Nick Salek, Doug Ainscow and sophomore Brendan Green.
For the Marist women's track team, freshman Rachael Peterson ran a season-best time and placed seventh overall in the 1,500-meter run (5:19.71).
The track teams return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the MAAC Championships at Rider University.
