POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) of the Marist baseball team was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Northeast Region Second Team as an outfielder on Thursday. Pacione, who graduated from Marist in May, was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 48th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Pacione was named First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) at utility this season after making 35 starts in left field and 17 behind the plate. He led Marist in batting average (.376), on-base percentage (.471) and total bases (101) total bases in 2011. For his career, Pacione ranks in Marist's top 10 in 10 statistical categories, and top three in five: hits (271, second); games played (212, second); runs batted in (152, third); triples (13, third); and at bats (804, third).
Pacione, who majored in Business Administration/Finance, was named CoSIDA/Capital One Second Team Academic All-American this year. He was named Academic All-District each of the last three seasons, and was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.
