2011-2012 Schedule
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Athletics Department released the 2011-2012 men's and women's swimming and diving schedule on Monday afternoon. Head swimming coach Larry VanWagner in his 36th season, and associate head coach Melanie Bolstad in her 21st, will lead the Red Foxes in a 13 meet schedule. The Red Foxes open with 10 regular season meets before closing with three championships.
The team begins competition with the Red & White Challenge, an inter-squad scrimmage, which will be held at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m.
An Oct. 14 home dual versus Army kicks off the regular season action for Marist as the Red Foxes welcome the Black Knights for a 4 p.m. meet. Six days later on Oct. 20, Fordham comes to Poughkeepsie for a Thursday night meet that begins at 7 p.m.
The Red Foxes will be on the road for their next two competitions as they face MAAC foes Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m., and Fairfield and Canisius at Erie Community College on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m.
They close out the 2011 calendar year with two meets, a home dual versus Binghamton on Saturday, Nov. 19 and the H20unds Invitational in Baltimore on Dec. 2-3. The H20unds Invitational, hosted by Loyola, will have the host school, Marist, Iona and Saint Peter's battling it out for MAAC team victories.
The Red Foxes' 2012 portion of their schedule begins with a Jan. 7 matchup versus Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. Marist's final road meet occurs the following weekend as they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The regular season closes with two home meets as Boston College of the ACC and Seton Hall of the Big East visit the McCann Center Natatorium. The Red Foxes faceoff with the Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 21 and the Pirates on Saturday, Jan. 18, both tilts are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts. The Jan. 28 matchup will also mark senior day for the Class of 2012 athletes on the squad.
Post-season competition begins with the Red Foxes returning to Erie Community College for the MAAC Championships on Thursday, Feb. 16. The Marist women look to defend their MAAC title over the three day event that concludes on Saturday, Feb. 18. In 2011, the Red Foxes won their 12th championship at ECC's Burt Flickinger Pool in dominating form with a 277 point victory over second place Rider, the second largest margin in MAAC history.
The following weekend, Marist will compete at the ECAC Championships from Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26. The women's squad placed third, while the men finished in sixth at the ECACs in 2011.
The NCAA Zone Diving Championships for qualified divers concludes the season for Marist on March 9-10.
2011 MAAC individual champions: Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.), Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.), Emily Miles (Long Valley, N.J.) and Katie Larkin (Huntington, N.Y.) lead the long list of returning Red Foxes for the 2011-12 campaign.
