The men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both
recognized in the most recent CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Division I Rankings.
The men's team is the fourth rated school in the receiving consideration section,
equivalent to 29th, while the women's squad is rated eight,
equivalent to 33rd.
The women are the highest ranked MAAC school ahead of Rider,
Niagara, Canisius and Siena, who are all in the receiving consideration
section.
The men are only out-ranked by Rider, who comes in at #18 in
the poll. The Red Foxes are ahead of Niagara and Canisius amongst MAAC schools
receiving considerations.
Through this weekend, Marist has faced off in non-conference
action against fellow ranked or receiving consideration programs, #6-Men/RV-Women Army,
RV-M/W Binghamton and RV-M/W Fordham.
Now in its 10th year, the Mid-Major Rankings serve to
provide an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a
traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions
that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b)
provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules.
Following a 35-day break for finals, holidays and training
the team will be getting back into competition with an away meet at Lehigh
University in Bethlehem, Pa. at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. The women's team
defeated the Mountain Hawks by a score of 186-109 last season, while the men
fell 172.5-125.5.
The Red Foxes will next have a home meet on Saturday, Jan.
21 versus Boston College at 1 p.m. at the McCann Natatorium.
