BETHLEHEM,
Pa. - The
Marist men's swimming and diving team fell in their first meet of the new
calendar year to Lehigh by a score of 202-98. The Red Foxes ran into an
undefeated Mountain Hawks squad, who improved to 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at
Lehigh's Jacobs Pool. Marist was led by sophomores Sean Molloy (Slingerlands,
N.Y.) and Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and freshman Dylan Cummings
(Midland Park, N.J.), who all collected individual event wins.
Molloy
highlighted the trio of winners as he set a career-high in the 3-meter board
with 299.10 points.
Both
Cummings and Spinella each had strong showings as they backed up their
victories with second-place finishes. Cummings, a victor in the 200-yd
backstroke at 1:56.52, finished in second in the 100-yd backstroke with a time
of 54.01. Spinella was victorious in the 100-yd backstroke at 53.51 and second
in the 100-yd freestyle event at 47.88.
Freshman
Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) gave the Red Foxes a consistent effort on
Saturday as he earned three second-place finishes. In all three events, the
100- and 200-yd butterfly and 200-yd IM, he finished less than .60 seconds shy
of the win, including a .20 setback in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of
1:53.97. Ruddy's 100-yd butterfly time was 52.66 and his IM time was 1:57.96.
Jacob
Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) had a strong showing in his first collegiate meet in
his home state with two runner-up finishes. In the 1-meter board he scored
245.25 points and 253.57 in the 3-meter.
The Red Foxes will back in the pool in New Haven, Conn,
next Saturday, Jan. 14 when they take on Southern Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
