BRONX, N.Y. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team fell to a strong Fordham squad on Thursday evening by a score of 140-97. A trio of Red Foxes earned event wins in the non-conference meet. Sophomores Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) and Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) and freshman Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took first place finishes.
A pair of divers led Marist on the road as Dodway led a trio of top three finishing Red Foxes in the 1-meter board. Less than a week after his first collegiate win versus Canisius, Dodway finished with a 281.70 point outing on Thursday. Baker took second with 243.75 points, while junior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) was third at 226.58.
In 3-meter action, Baker surpassed Dodway as he won with a 247.43 total. Dodway was second at 238.43, while Molloy was third with 234.95 points.
Ruddy was Marist's lone victor in swimming action as he took first place in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 1:56.96, nearly two seconds clear of second place. Earlier in the meet, the sophomore set a personal best in the 200-yd IM with a close runner-up finish at 1:56.94. Ruddy was just .31 seconds shy of the win.
In sprint freestyle action, sophomore John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) earned two second place finishes as he registered a time of 21.76 in the 50-yd race and a 48.00 result in the 100-yd event.
The Red Foxes will be off for 16 days before getting back into competition on Saturday, Nov. 10 with a home conference meet against Fairfield. The first event is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
