BRONX, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team won at Fordham in a non-conference game by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. A ninth-inning sacrifice fly by freshman designated hitter Chris Napolitano (Wall, N.J.) brought home pinch-runner Eric Molinaro (Kingston, N.Y.) with the winning run in the top of the ninth.

Freshman right-hander Brandon Dolan (Franklin Park, N.J.) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to improve his record to 2-1. Dolan struck out two and allowed just one hit. Senior right-hander Jake Rifkin (West Deptford, N.J.) kept Fordham off the scoreboard in the ninth to earn his first save of the season, as he lowered his ERA to 0.87. Freshman left-hander Rich Vrana (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) started and went the first 5.2 innings. Vrana allowed six hits, two runs and two walks, and struck out four.

Marist got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the third, as back-to-back two-out singles by sophomore third baseman Nick McQuail (Wantagh, N.Y.) and red-shirt junior catcher Ben Luderer (River Vale, N.J.) brought home freshman second baseman Alec Petrone (Mahopac, N.Y.) and sophomore center fielder Jake Berry (South Hamilton, Mass.). However, Fordham tied the game on a two-run homer by third baseman Mike Mauri in the bottom of the fifth.

The Red Foxes started their ninth-inning rally when Luderer reached on an error, and he was sacrificed to second by red-shirt sophomore Mark Stuckey (Marietta, Pa.). After sophomore right fielder Pat Welsh (Millersville, Pa.) also reached on an error, Luderer was replaced at second base by Molinaro, who advanced to third on a passed ball. Molinaro then scored on Napolitano's fly ball to left field.

Jeremy Adel (1-1), who pitched the ninth for Fordham, took the loss.

Marist is now 5-10 this season; Fordham is 7-14. The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, when they open play at McCann Baseball Field with their first two conference games, as they will take on Manhattan in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at noon.
