PHILADELPHIA - The Marist men's track & field team competed at the prestigious Penn Relays late Thursday and Friday.
Junior Joel Moss (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) ran in the 10,000 meters, finishing 26th in the championship race in 31:08.95. The time was a personal best by 29 seconds, and missed the IC4A qualifying standard by less than a second. Moss, who ran in a steady downpour, ran faster in the second half of the race than the first half, as his first 5K was completed in 15:35.
Freshman Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y.) ran a personal-best time of 9:32.46 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Valentino, who has already qualified for the United States Track & Field Junior National championships in the event, finished 14th in the College Division in 9:32.46.
The 400-meter relay team of senior Michael McCloskey (Latham, N.Y.), sophomore Connor Dodge (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), junior Darren Bushey (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore Jesse Aprile (Yorktown, N.Y.) fought through windy conditions to run 44.07 seconds and place 76th overall.
The Marist men's and women's track & field teams will return to action on Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
