POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist swimming and diving team hosted Fordham on Thursday evening in its 2013 home opener. The men's team defeated the Rams, 131-110. The Red Foxes move to 2-0 overall.
Marist opened up the meet with a victory, winning the 400 yard medley relay. Junior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.), freshman David DiMarco (Nazareth, Pa.), junior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) and junior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) led the team to first place with a time of 3:31.93.
The Red Foxes also won the 50 yard freestyle. Spitzer earned first place with a time of 21.76. Senior Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) finished third, clocking a time of 22.40. Ruddy, Cummings, and DiMarco stole the top spots in the 200 yard individual medley with times of 1:58.54, 1:59.58, and 2:00.23, respectively. Cummings earned his second victory of the meet in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.61.
The Marist men's diving squad swept Fordham, taking first, second, and third place in both the one meter and three meter diving events. Sophomore Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) earned first place in the one meter diving event, scoring 303.35. This dive qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. Senior Sean Molloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) took second with a score of 284.65 and freshman Jacob Baker (Shavertown, Pa.) placed third with a score of 249.45. Molloy took first place in the three meter diving event, scoring 299.40. Dodway and Baker followed Molloy in second (286.60) and third (274.10).
The Red Foxes hit the road to face Fairfield on Saturday, Nov. 9. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Marist returns home on Saturday, Jan.18 as it hosts Boston College. First whistle is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the McCann Natatorium.
