Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – The Marist volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 triumph over Quinnipiac on Wednesday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match. The Red Foxes prevailed 25-18, 25-16, 25-19.
Junior Mackenzie Stephens (Holland, Mich.) had a match-high 10 kills to go along with three blocks and a .391 hitting percentage. Sophomore Courtney Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) had eight kills in two sets while hitting .462. Junior Becca Jones (Arlington, Va.) had seven kills, 11 digs and a .400 hitting percentage. Junior libero Brooke Zywick (Garden City, Mich.) tied for the team high with 11 digs and added four assists. Senior Audra Brady (Allentown, Pa.) had 22 assists, and freshman Amanda Schlegel (Austin, Texas) contributed nine assists in the only set she played.
In all, 14 Red Foxes saw playing time in the match. Marist never trailed in the first and third sets.
Marist hit .258 as a team, and held Quinnipiac to a .050 hitting percentage. Allison Leigh led the Bobcats with seven kills.
The Red Foxes improved to 15-8 overall and 9-4 in the MAAC; Quinnipiac fell to 4-21 overall and 2-10 in conference.
With the victory, Marist maintained its ground in a packed top of the conference standings. The top five teams – Manhattan (9-3), Fairfield (9-3), Marist (9-4), Iona (9-4) and Siena (9-4) – are all separated by just a half-game. The top four teams will compete in next month's MAAC championships.
Marist has now completed its road schedule for the 2013 season. The Red Foxes' final five matches of the regular season will all take place at McCann Arena, starting with Saturday's contest against Siena. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
