POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Sophomore defensive end Landon Moore (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) of the Marist football team was named Pioneer Football League (PFL) Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Red Foxes defeated Mercer 33-7 to win a share of the PFL championship, which enabled them to set a varsity record for wins in a season with eight. Moore's efforts were key to the Red Foxes' defensive performance, as he registered a team-high nine tackles, which included five stops for a loss of yardage. He added two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Moore's five tackles for loss resulted in a loss of 23 yards for Mercer. The Marist defense forced six turnovers on the day, and held the Bears to a season-low 227 yards of total offense.
On the season, Moore has totaled six-and-a-half sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He has 44 tackles and four pass break-ups.
The Marist football team shared the PFL championship with Butler. Both teams are awaiting the news of who will represent the league with its first automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Football Championship.
