BALTIMORE, Md. - Four players reached double figures and the Marist women's basketball team shot 52% from the floor, rolling to a 79-55 win over Loyola Sunday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game.
Casey Dulin (Milford, Conn.) scored a game-high 20 points, reaching the 20-point plateau for the second consecutive game. She hit three three-pointers for the third consecutive game. Sydney Coffey (New Hope, Minn.) tied her career-high with 16 points, also hitting three-pointers, while grabbing four rebounds and making two blocks. Elizabeth Beynnon (Burlington, Vt.) had 15 points, shooting 7-8 from the field, and Kristina Danella (Manalapan, N.J.) scored 12 points off the bench. The Red Foxes shot made 25 of their 48 shots from the field, including 9-19 (47.4%) from three-point range. They had 22 assists with only nine turnovers.
Marist (21-6, 16-0 MAAC) scored the first seven points of the game, holding Loyola (10-17, 5-11 MAAC) without a field goal for the first 3:41.
The Greyhounds eventually pulled to within two, but the Red Foxes responded with a 15-2 run to open a 27-9 advantage with 9:21 left. Danella started the run with a three-pointer and, after Coffey went 1-2 from the free throw line, Dulin scored five straight points by converting a three-point play and hitting two more from the charity stripe. Beynnon and Ockenden both made layups around two more free throws from O'Connor to complete the run.
Marist maintained the large lead into halftime, leading 37-24 at the midway point.
Loyola hit its first three three-pointers of the second half to cut Marist's lead to single digits at 42-33, but Coffey answered with an immediate three-pointer to bring the lead back to 12 at 45-33 with 17:13 left.
Following a Greyhounds' layup, Marist embarked on a 19-7 run to expand its lead to 22 at 64-42 with 10:38 left. Danella started the run with a pair of free throws and Coffey followed with another three-pointer. After a Beynnon three-point play, Dulin hit her third trey of the game. Just over a minute later, Coffey hit another shot from beyond the arc. Dulin then hit a driving layup and Danella closed the run by hitting three free throws after being fouled on a three-pointer.
With just under a minute left, senior Suzzette Garnett (The Bronx, N.Y. ) made her first career field goal, banking in a three-pointer on an assist from Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.).
Marist returns to McCann Arena for its final home game of the season against Saint Peter's. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the Red Foxes will celebrate this year's seniors in a pregame ceremony.
