Men's Crew Members Compete In Royal Canadian Henley Regatta

St. Catharine's, Ontario – Earlier this month, two members of the Marist men's crew team took part in the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, racing in two events for the Vesper Boat Club. Senior Harrison Drouin-Reed and junior Dan Nesfeder raced in both the 8+ and 4- events.

In the 8+ race, Vesper took second in its semifinal heat, crossing the finish line in 5:38.09 with Nesfeder sitting in the four seat and Drouin Reed at the bow. In the finals, Vesper again finished second, just five seconds behind the boat from California Rowing Club in a time of 5:58.8.

In the 4- race, which does not include a coxswain (also known as a Four Straight), Nesfeder sat bow and Drouin-Reed stroked. Vesper crossed the finish line in third in its semifinal heat, finishing in a time of 6:34.66. In the final, Vesper took fifth with a final time of 6:35.07.

“It's great to see guys like Harry and Dan work hard all summer and improve themselves as their results at Canadian Henley Regatta demonstrate,” Marist head coach Matt Lavin said. “I am very excited for the increased energy and drive they will bring back to Marist. It will certainly make us a faster team.”

The Red Foxes are coming off of a 2013 campaign in which they claimed their 12th straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, winning the final three races to surge past Jacksonville for a narrow 150-149 victory. The Marist Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight boats both earned postseason All-MAAC Rowing Awards and Lavin was named the MAAC Men's Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm.
