POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In preparation for the 2013 season, Marist head women's soccer coach Katherine Lyn announced that seniors Kylee McIntosh (Cheshire, Conn.), Samantha Panzner (Livingston, N.J.) and junior Marissa Mertens (Hicksville, N.Y.) have been named team captains.

“We have a wide array of personalities with the captains,” Lyn said. “From fair and calm to militant and demanding. I chose these captains for their diversity and versatility in communication. One thing the girls bring is the ability to accept different approaches to one situation, which allows for more solutions to any one problem.”

McIntosh is a returning Second Team All-MAAC player for the Red Foxes. She helped anchor a defense that had eight shutouts in the 2012 season. She has recorded 43 career starts with two goals and one assist. McIntosh was also selected to the All-MAAC Rookie Team as a freshman.

Panzner joined McIntosh in 2012 as a member of the Second Team All-MAAC. She was also nominated to the All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2011, as well as MAAC Offensive Player of the Week in October 2010. Panzner has 40 career starts for Marist with eight goals and 14 assists. She had team-high seven assists in 2012.

The third captain chosen by Lyn to lead the team in 2012 is Mertens. Mertens was selected to the MAAC All-American Team in 2012 and the All-MAAC Second Team and All-MAAC Rookie Team in 2011. She has 43 career starts for the Red Foxes and scored her lone goal as the game winning shot against Canisius in 2012.

The Red Foxes will open their 2013 campaign on Monday, Aug. 26 on the road at Drexel. They will play their first home contest on Thursday, Aug. 29 against UMass-Lowell at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. For the complete 2013 Marist women's soccer schedule, please click here.
