POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Rider at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 in McCann Natatorium.
Last Time Out (Women)
Marist (2-1, 2-0) defeated Fairfield 177-115 on Nov. 8. Junior captain Bethany Powhida (Delmar, N.Y.) won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events, while also leading the Red Foxes to a first place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. She was named MAAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for her efforts. Freshman Megan Berardelli (Ambler, Pa.) was named MAAC Women's Diver of the Week after coming in first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 273.75 points.
Last Time Out (Men)
The Red Foxes (3-0, 2-0) remained undefeated on the season after taking down Fairfield 186-91 on Nov. 8. Senior Sean Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y.) won two events for Marist: the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.09) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:11.09). Junior Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) swept both diving events, scoring 289.42 points on the 3-meter board and 302.55 points at one meter.
Scouting Rider (Women)
Rider comes to Marist as the Red Foxes' biggest MAAC rival over the past decade. Both teams have finished first and second at the MAAC Championships for the past seven years with Marist taking six of those seven titles. The Broncs (0-5) are competing against their first MAAC opponent of the season after losing to La Salle, 228-69, and Delaware, 244-53, on Nov. 8 in Newark, Del. Sophomore Heather Lonkert was the highest finisher for Rider, placing third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 267.25 points.
Scouting Rider (Men)
The Broncs (1-4) lost to La Salle, 179-119, and Delaware, 151-146, on Nov. 8. Junior Wayco Bailey won the 1- and 3-meter dives, scoring 290.95 and 300.10 points respectively. He was named MAAC Men's Diver of the Week for his performance.
Looking Ahead
Marist will travel to Baltimore, Md., for the H2ounds Invitational on Dec. 5-6 and will take on Loyola along with conference foes Iona and Saint Peter's. The meet will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday and continue at 10 a.m. Saturday.
