EDISON, N.J. – Sophomore Meredith Wurtz (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Nov. 20.
Wurtz took first place in both freestyle events in Marist's 184-106 victory over Rider on Nov. 15, helping the Red Foxes earn 33 points. She swam to a time of 24.25 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and followed up by winning the very next event, the 100-yard freestyle, in 53.18 seconds. Wurtz also swam the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay, which the Red Foxes won in 1:49.36 to kick off the meet. She finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:57.30.
The Red Foxes remain unbeaten after three MAAC dual meets this season and own a 3-1 overall record heading into their next competition: the H2ounds Invitational. Marist will go up against host Loyola as well as MAAC foes Iona and Saint Peter's on Dec. 5-6. The meet will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday and continue at 10 a.m. Saturday.
