POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist Athletics Department has released the 2015 schedule for the softball team.
The Red Foxes will play a total of 56 games in 2014. The season will open with four games in the Norfolk State Tournament the weekend of Feb. 21-22. The following weekend, Marist will play five games in three days in the UNC Wilmington Tournament.
From March 13-22, the Red Foxes will play 13 games in a 10-day span. This will include five games in the College of Charleston Tournament, with one coming against 2014 NCAA Softball Championship participant Wisconsin. The Red Foxes will also play four games in the University of Virginia Tournament, with two apiece against the host Cavaliers and Delaware State.
Marist will play seven home doubleheaders at Softball Park at Gartland Field, with the first being on Sunday, March 29 in the team's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener against Rider. The Red Foxes will also have home doubleheaders against MAAC foes Siena, Iona, Monmouth and Fairfield. They will welcome non-conference foes Villanova and St. Bonaventure to Poughkeepsie.
Marist's home finale will take place against Fairfield on Sunday, April 26. The Red Foxes will close out the regular season at Saint Peter's on Sunday, May 3.
This year's MAAC Softball Championship will take place from May 7-10. The team that earns the number one seed in the conference championship will serve as the tournament's host.
The Marist softball team is heading into seventh season under the direction of head coach Joe Ausanio. The Red Foxes have reached the MAAC Championships each of the last four seasons. Marist advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2013, and won the MAAC regular-season title in 2014.
