DENVER, Colo. - The Marist men's lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0 MAAC) fell to Air Force (2-2, 0-0 ECAC) in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon, 17-9. With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 1-2 overall this season.

Sophomore Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) posted a career-high five goals for the Red Foxes. Juniors Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.), Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.), sophomore Dillon Walker (Wawa, Pa.) and freshman Clayton Frank (Vancouver, Wash.) recorded one goal each. Begley also tallied two assists, accompanied by junior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) with one assist of his own. Junior goalkeeper Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded eight saves in the net.

The Red Foxes topped Air Force in face-offs, winning 18-of-30. Marist collected 27 ground balls and attempted 31 shots.

The Falcons opened up the game with the first three goals, taking a 3-0 lead with 8:51 left in the first quarter. Walker put Marist on the board at the 8:08 mark, assisted by Joka, to trail Air Force, 3-1.

Air Force scored again at the 7:44 mark to pull ahead 4-1. Radin netted his first goal of the game at the 6:38 mark, assisted by Begley, to trail the Falcons 4-2.

Air Force scored back-to-back goals to pull ahead 6-2, followed by two straight goals by the Red Foxes, to make it a two score game once again. Nesmith netted his lone goal of the game at the 1:52 mark, followed by Radin's second of the afternoon with 56 second to play in the first quarter. Air Force finished the quarter with two more goals to take a 8-4 lead heading into the second quarter.

Strong defensive efforts by both teams resulted in a scoreless 12 and a half minutes of play in the second quarter. The Falcons broke the silence at the 2:25 mark with two consecutive goals to take a 10-4 lead at the half.

Begley scored out of the gate for the Red Foxes, his first goal of the season, to cut the Air Force lead to 10-5. The Falcons scored two straight in a 12 second period to move ahead of Marist, 12-5. Radin notched his third goal of the game at the 7:06 mark in the third quarter to put the Red Foxes behind Air Force, 12-6.

Two more Air Force goals would make it 14-6 with 1:40 left in the third quarter. Radin squeezed one more goal in with 27 seconds left in the third period, assisted by Begley, to post a 14-7 score heading into the final quarter of play.

Radin scored this fifth goal for Marist early in the fourth quarter to pull his team within six of the Falcons. Three straight goals by Air Force would propel the Falcons to a 17-8 lead entering the final minute of play. Frank netted his first collegiate goal for the Red Foxes but it was to no avail as the Flacons improved to 2-2 with a 17-9 victory over Marist.

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, March 1 for their home opener against Marquette. Face-off is set for 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
