NEWARK, N.J. – The Marist women's tennis team fell to NJIT on Saturday, 7-0. With the loss, the Red Foxes move to 1-4 overall.
“As a team we competed hard and battled in both singles and doubles against a tough opponent,” said head coach Jason Sacher. “I was particularly impressed with Karly Pang, she fought right to the end and took a very talented player the distance. We need to continue to work hard and build off of the many good things we did today.”
Sophomore Karly Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) fell in first singles in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6. Junior Sabrina Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y.) took her match to three sets but eventually lost 3-6, 7-5, 4-6. In third singles, Freshman Callie Morlock (Golden, Colo.) dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision. Senior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) succumbed to NJIT, 1-6, 1-6. Sophomore Lisa Ventimiglia (Bayside, N.Y.) was bested 1-6, 1-6. Sophomore Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was edged in sixth singles, 4-6, 4-6.
NJIT claimed two of three doubles matches on the evening. Pang and Tahir lost 6-8. Morlock and Carlay dropped a 4-8 decision. Campbell and sophomore Katie Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) earned Marist's lone win of the match with a 8-6 decision.
The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, April 1 against Fairfield. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
