PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Mark Valentino (Smithtown, N.Y.) of the Marist men's track and field team placed fifth overall in the Olympic Development 3,000-meter steeplechase Thursday night at the Penn Relays. Valentino posted a time of 9:18.15.
Valentino's time was a personal best by approximately 11 seconds, and was a little over two seconds shy of the IC4A qualifying standard of 9:16.00. His fifth-place finish is believed to the highest individual athlete of any Marist distance athlete in Penn Relays history.
Senior Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) finished 32nd in the men's college 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:27.33.
