POUGHKEEPSIE – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Marist baseball team's three-game series at Fairfield has been adjusted.
Friday's single game between the teams has been postponed. The teams will now open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. The final game of the series is now set for Monday, with the start time to be announced.
Entering Thursday's play, Marist (16-30 overall, 9-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play) needs two wins in the series to clinch a berth in next week's conference championships. The Red Foxes may be able to make the championships with fewer than two wins pending the results of the Saint Peter's-Manhattan and Rider-Iona series, both of which begin with doubleheaders on Thursday. Saint Peter's and Manhattan are currently scheduled to conclude their series on Friday, while Rider and Iona are scheduled to wrap theirs up Saturday evening.
UPDATE (Thursday night): On Thursday, Manhattan swept Saint Peter's, and Iona swept Rider in doubleheaders. This leaves Marist, Manhattan and Iona in contention for the sixth seed in the MAAC championships.
The Red Foxes will qualify for the championships with two wins against Fairfield. They can qualify with one win only if Manhattan loses on Friday to Saint Peter's, and Iona loses on Saturday evening to Rider.
