INDIANAPOLIS - Four Marist teams – men's cross country, men's indoor track & field, women's basketball and volleyball – earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for their Academic Progress Rate (APR) and placed to the Division I Academic Performance Program (APP), it was announced Wednesday.
The Academic Progress Rate is a metric developed to track the academic achievement of Division I teams. The Public Recognition Awards are given to teams scoring in the top 10 percent of their sport with their APR scores. The APR scores are based on multi-year rates from the 2009-10 season through the 2012-13 academic year.
This year, the men's cross country team had 15 members named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, while the men's indoor track & field team had 18 student-athletes honored, both of which led the conference. The women's basketball team had four players honored this academic year, and nine players from the volleyball team were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Volleyball junior Brooke Zywick and women's basketball sophomore Madeline Blais were both named MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week during their seasons. Zywick also earned CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honors this year.
This is the third straight year that Marist's volleyball and women's basketball teams have earned Public Recognition Awards. Men's cross country was previously honored last year, and in 2006. This is the second straight year men's indoor track & field has been honored.
