POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team (7-4, 4-1 MAAC) concluded the 2014-15 regular season with a 169-125 win over Binghamton on Senior Day on Saturday in McCann Natatorium.
Senior Dylan Cummings (Midland Park, N.J.) competed in four events for the Red Foxes, winning three of them to score 29 points. He kicked off the meet by swimming the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay and leading Marist to a first place time of 1:36.13. Individually, he pulled out victories the 100- (51.63 seconds) and 200-yard (1:56.24) backstroke.
In the butterfly events, senior Jason Ruddy (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) swam 100 yards in 52.73 seconds and 200 yards in 1:56.60 for a pair of wins. He was also on the first-place 200-yard medley relay team alongside two of his classmates.
Sophomore Ryan Murphy (New Fairifield, Conn.) continued to dominate the freestyle events, winning at 200 (1:44.75) and 500 yards (4:49.53). His time of 10:02.77 in the 1,000-yard freestyle was good enough for second place. Reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week senior John Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) took the short distance freestyle events with times of 21.43 seconds at 50 yards and 48.02 seconds at 100 yards. He was the anchor of Marist's winning 200-yard medley relay team.
Junior Josh Dodway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and freshman Peter Gallino (Watertown, Conn.) finished second and third respectively on the 1- and 3-meter boards. Dodway's higher finish came in the 3-meter dive, as he racked up 301.12 points. Gallino scored a personal best 290.25 points in the 3-meter event and finished just 2.25 points behind Dodway on the 1-meter board with 274.72 points.
Marist begins postseason competition at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships from Feb. 11-14 at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The Red Foxes have finished as the runners up at the MAAC championships for the past three years.
