NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York - Sophomore goalkeeper Mark Rajovic earned his 11th career shutout to move into a tie for first place in program history as the Marist men's soccer team defeated Niagara, 1-0, on Oct. 28.
Rajovic's fourth shutout of the 2015 season puts him alongside Mike Valenti in the record books. He made one save in the win and has played every minute in goal for the Red Foxes this season.
"It's a great accomplishment for Mark in his first two seasons," Marist head coach Matt Viggiano said. "It's definitely both an individual and team honor."
Both goalies traded saves in the first half and junior Dylan MacVane had a shot blocked. Marist got on the scoreboard on the fourth penalty kick goal of the year from freshman Simon Lund Jorgensen, who found the back of the net in the 34th minute.
"It was a gutsy win for us today," Viggiano said. "We played in terrible conditions and we were down a man for 70 minutes. I'm proud of the guys for pulling through and looking forward to us keeping it going."
Marist's defense blocked two more shots in the second half as the Purple Eagles managed just one shot on goal in the contest. The Red Foxes finished the contest with six shots, three of which came on goal.
The Red Foxes will host Monmouth in their 2015 regular season finale Oct. 31. The Hawks have clinched the MAAC regular season title while Marist has moved into a three-way tie with Rider and Iona for second place.
The Red Foxes' five seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony prior to the 7 p.m. match against Monmouth Saturday.
