UPSTATE, N.Y. – The Marist women's tennis team dropped two matches this weekend, 5-2 against Binghamton on Friday night at the Binghamton Tennis Center and 7-0 against Cornell, Saturday morning at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
In Friday's match against Binghamton, Marist took the doubles point with wins from the teams of junior Karly Pang (Kaneohoe, Hawaii) and freshman Claire Schmitz (Scotia, N,Y.) and junior Katie Seitz (Pennington, N.J.) and junior Nikki Rohan (Mountain Lakes, N.J.). The Bearcats bounced back and took five out of the six singles matches to secure the dual match win.
The Red Foxes did stretch two singles matches to third sets, splitting the two. Pang fell 12-10 in the third set but Rohan picked up a 10-8 win in the third set over Binghamton's Paulina Tafler to secure a singles point.
On Saturday morning the Red Foxes faced off against Cornell for only the second time in the two program's histories. The last time these two teams faced was 2005 as Cornell triumphed 6-1. This time around the Big Red were able to sweep the Red Foxes 7-0 in straight sets.
The Red Foxes start conference action next week against the Rider Broncs on Saturday, March 21 at home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
