POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -Â The Marist men's lacrosse team ended its 2015 regular season tying a program record with 11 wins and going 6-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Red Foxes defeated Siena, 15-4, on Senior Night for their sixth straight victory in 2015, which is the second longest winning streak of all time.
Junior Joseph Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) netted his 100th goal in three seasons and sophomore J.D. Recor (Lancaster, N.Y.) became the fifth Marist player this season to notch his 100th career point. Recor achieved the feat in just his 29th career game and joined 16 players in program history to reach the century mark.
In the first quarter, senior Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) scored two goals, including one on a man-up opportunity, as the Red Foxes bursted out to a 4-1 lead. Recor reached the 100-point milestone with his 28th assist of the season on a Radin score with 7:19 remaining in the second quarter. The final goal of the half provided Marist with a 6-2 cushion.
After a penalty to Siena sophomore Joe Arcarese carried into the second half, Radin found the back of the net for the 100th time in his career two seconds in.
Marist led 10-3 heading into the final frame, which saw many subsitutions. Freshman Kyle Quinn (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Connor O'Neill (Sayville, N.Y.)Â connected to tally their first career goal and assist, respectively.Â
Senior Night honoree Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes and made four of his 12 saves in the final quarter. Â Â
The Saints scored twice on eight man up opportunities and were led by senior faceoff specialist Casey Dowd, who posted team highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (2).
As the no. 1 seed in the MAAC Championships, Marist will host no. 4 Monmouth in the semifinals at 7 p.m. April 30. The Red Foxes' contest will be preceded by the semifinal between second seed Quinnipiac and third seed Detroit, which is slated for 4 p.m. The tournament final is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live from Tenney Stadium on Time Warner Cable and ESPN3.
