POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team fell to the Dartmouth Big Green, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. With the loss the Red Foxes move to 1-2-0 on the season.
Dartmouth struck first in the scoring column after a through ball by Melanie Vangel found a streaking Lucielle Kozlov. Kozlov headed towards goal alone and was able to knock it past the Marist keeper for a 1-0 Dartmouth lead 23 minutes into the game.
The Big Green controlled most of the first half of action, trapping the Red Foxes in their own end and tallying 13 shots to Marist's six.
The second half saw the Red Foxes apply more pressure to the Dartmouth backline, outshooting the Big Green 6-5, but the team was unable to crack the Dartmouth defense and put one home.
Dartmouth tacked on another goal late in the game off a nice counter attack. Lauren Lucas streaked down the right side and delivered a ball to Corey Delaney who put the ball in the upper right corner of the net to solidify the Dartmouth lead for good.
In total Dartmouth outshot the Red Foxes 18-12 and had six corners to Marist's two. Marist goalkeeper Ashley Houghton made six saves for the Red Foxes and Katie Fuhs made three saves for Dartmouth.
Kristen Reilly led the Red Foxes in shots with three, Hope Quinonez, Kerri McGinley, and Amanda Garrity each had two apiece.
The Red Foxes head out on the road for more non-conference action as they take on Albany, Friday September 4th at 7 p.m.
