POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team dropped their fourth consecutive game as they lost to Maine, 5-0, Friday night at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes trailed by only one at halftime but four second half goals for the Black Bears pushed the game well out of reach.

Maine struck first at the 20 minute mark after a no-call in midfield resulted in a turnover that led to a blast from over 30 yards out from Maine's Alex Abrahams. Abrahams shot flew past the outstretched Marist keeper and found the upper half of the net.

The Red Foxes fought back from the early deficit and had numerous chances in the first half to equalize including two flurries in the box that resulted in four blocked shots in quick succession.

Maine gathered itself at halftime and came out firing, scoring just three minutes into the second half and then again 10 minutes later to take a 3-0 lead with just over 30 minutes remaining. Kaitlin Saulter and Anetra Byfield added two more late goals for Maine but by that point the damage had been done.

In a game that saw a tremendous amount of shot attempts, both teams combined for 45 shots (27 on goal), the Red Foxes and Black Bears were seemingly firing from everywhere. Maine finished with 24 shots and Marist finished with 21.

Kate Evans, who scored Maine's third goal on the evening, led Maine in attempts with five, while Amanda Bauza led the Red Foxes with the same number of attempts. Brianna Robinson and Juliette Loccisano each had four shots for Marist.

In goal for Marist, Ashley Houghton finished the game with a season high 11 saves while her counterpart Claudi Dube-Trempe also made 11 saves for Maine. Each team finished the game with six corner kicks a piece.

With the loss the Red Foxes move to 1-5-0 on the season and will face their fourth and final consecutive America East opponent as they travel to take on Vermont, Tuesday, September 15 at 3:30 p.m.
