Marist Men Fall To MAAC Foe Rider Broncs

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's swimming and diving team fell to Rider, 188.5-104.5, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference dual meet Oct. 29 in McCann Arena. Heading into the contest, the Broncs were ranked 23rd among mid-major schools in Division I according to collegeswimming.com.  

The Red Foxes' 200-yard medley relay squad picked up a second place finish after clocking in at 1:35.58. Sophomore Edward Oser swam the second leg of the race and posted times of 1:00.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:14.14 in the 200-yard event to take second and third place respectively.

In the freestyle circuit, sophomore Miguel Madeira finished third in the 200- (1:43.89) and 500-yard (4:46.31) freestyle events. Also competing on a pair of relay teams, freshman Daniel Knoll won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.57 seconds, just a millisecond faster than Rider sophomore Vincent Gibbons. He placed second at 100 yards (47.05 seconds). Freshman Evan Nilsson picked up his first collegiate victory in the 1,000 freestyle, touching at 9:41.64 nearly 14 seconds ahead of the field.

Toward the end of the meet, sophomore Mark Miller paced his way to a second place time of 2:00.17 in the 200-yard IM.   

Sophomore Peter Gallino swept the diving events for Marist, racking up 262.12 points at one meter and 290.32 points at three meters. Freshman Raislan Aiken was third in the 1-meter dive (217.20 points) and second at three meters (257.62 points).

For the first time in three years, the Red Foxes will be on the road against Fairfield for a 1 p.m. MAAC dual meet Nov. 5.
