POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Junior Chris Apicella of the Marist football team has been named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
A native of Stony Point, NY, Apicella serves as the team's backup long snapper, and also contributes on kick coverage units. He has appeared in six games this season, and has registered one tackle. Apicella has appeared in 11 career games.
Apicella majors in Business Administration/Finance & Economics. He has been selected to the Pioneer Football League Academic Honor Roll each of the last two seasons.
To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must have spent at least two prior semesters at his or her institution, have played in over 50 percent of the team's games, and have a grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
The Marist football team (4-4 overall, 4-1 Pioneer Football League) returns to action on Saturday at league rival Stetson (4-4, 2-3). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be carried live on ESPN3.
