NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated at Niagara by a score of 76-72 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Thursday night at the Gallagher Center.

Playing without red-shirt junior guard Khallid Hart and freshman guard Brian Parker, the Red Foxes had four double-digit scorers, led by freshman swingman David Knudsen with a career-high 17. Sophomore guard K.J. Lee and freshman forward Ryan Funk scored 12 apiece. Freshman swingman Kristinn Palsson had 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.

Emile Blackman paced five Purple Eagles in double digits with 21 points. Dominic Robb had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Marist held a 41-40 edge in rebounds. Both teams committed just nine turnovers.

Niagara got out to a fast start, and led 12-2 just 4:37 into the game. The Purple Eagles' largest lead was 11 on two occasions in the first half, the last of which came with 7:04 remaining. A 16-6 run brought the Red Foxes to within two, and the Purple Eagles led 39-34 after the first 20 minutes.

With 15:22 to play, a jumper by Knudsen put Marist in front for the first time at 46-44. A 9-2 run over the span of 3:33 gave the Red Foxes their largest lead at 57-50 with 9:13 remaining.

However, over the ensuing 8:03, Niagara outscored Marist 20-4. The Red Foxes committed five of their nine turnovers in the game, and converted just one field goal. In the final two minutes, Marist's smallest deficit was four, and Niagara shot 10-for-12 from the free-throw line.  

Marist is now 5-21 overall and 2-15 in the MAAC. Niagara is 7-21 and 5-12 in the MAAC.

Marist returns to action on Saturday at Canisius. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m., and the game will be carried on ESPN3.

Notes: Hart (right knee) and Parker (illness) are both day-to-day. … It was the first game Parker has missed this season. No Red Fox has played in all 26 of the team's games. … Marist has now used 12 different starting lineups this season. … As a result of Marist's loss coupled with other results in the conference, Marist will be the #11 seed in this year's MAAC Championships. The Red Foxes will open play on Thursday, March 3 at 9 p.m. against the to-be-determined #6 seed. … Freshmen accounted for 48 of Marist's 72 points. … Marist is now 1-7 in games decided by four points or less.
