BALTIMORE - The Marist men's lacrosse team (1-3) lost a road contest at UMBC (1-3), 9-8 in overtime March 12. Redshirt sophomore Brian Corrigan had made 16 saves for the Red Foxes before Retrievers' junior Garrett Hasken hit the back of the net at the 3:54 mark of the extra period.
Marist senior Joseph Radin had a hat trick while sophomore Gannon Morrison led the team with a pair of assists and two caused turnovers.
The Red Foxes ended the first quarter with two quick scores, including the first of the season for sophomore Kyle Quinn with 6:17 left to take a 3-2 lead.
Both sides remained nearly even in every statistical category throughout the second quarter, but the Red Foxes shut out the Retrievers 4-0 with the help of two goals and an assist from Radin on the run.
Marist also won nearly half its battles in the faceoff X as junior Connor O'Neill ended the afternoon a career best 10-for-21. By halftime the Red Foxes had built a 7-2 lead.
UMBC controlled the second half, creeping back into the game and limiting the Red Foxes to one goal an no man up opportunities. The Retrievers went 2-4 on their power plays and outshot Marist 39-26 in the game.
Hasken lead UMBC with six ground balls on defense and senior Zach Esser had half of the Retrievers' 10 caused turnovers.
Marist will host Hartford in its final home non-conference game of the season. The contest will be played under the Tenney Stadium lights at 7 p.m.
