EDISON, New Jersey – Freshman utility player Claire Oberdorf of the Marist softball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday.

Oberdorf hit a team-best .643 (9-for-14) as Marist went 3-1 this past week. She had an on-base percentage of .688, a slugging percentage of .929, five RBIs, four runs scored, two extra-base hits, two walks, and a sacrifice bunt. She was also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. Oberdorf hit safely in every game, and had three multi-hit games. She made three starts at second base, and one at catcher this week. She handled all 10 fielding chances successfully without committing an error, finishing with six assists and four putouts.

In the first game of a doubleheader on April 6, Oberdorf was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and her first collegiate home run in a 9-3 triumph over Boston University. In the second game, she singled, walked and stole a base in Marist's 5-4 win. In the first game of a doubleheader against Manhattan on April 10, Oberdorf went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and a sacrifice bunt. In the second game against the Jaspers, she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a run scored, two stolen bases and a walk. Her second-inning RBI single gave Marist the lead in a four-run frame, and she added a two-out, two-run single in a four-run fifth as the Red Foxes prevailed 9-5.

For the season, Oberdorf is hitting a team-best .393 with one home run, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored. She leads the Red Foxes with a .607 slugging percentage, and has a .439 on-base percentage. She has played in 22 games after finishing basketball season as the Red Foxes' starter at point guard.

This is the fifth time this season, and third consecutive week, that a Marist softball player has earned a MAAC weekly award:

The Marist softball team is 24-8 overall, and 3-1 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, when they host Hartford for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Oberdorf was named ECAC Rookie of the Week. It marked the first time this season a Red Fox was honored by the ECAC.
